NY Rangers bring confidence to Tampa, but will have to earn momentum

Each game represents a fresh start, which the New York Rangers have proved by bouncing back from poor showings and overcoming series deficits in each of the first two rounds.

But there does seem to be some carryover effect of late. The Blueshirts have rattled off four straight wins, with the last two giving them a 2-0 series lead over the two-time defending champion Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final.

“I don’t know if it’s so much momentum game to game as it maybe is confidence,” forward Tyler Motte explained Saturday. “Obviously, we’ve got a lot of guys that are playing well, which is great for our group. Now with the travel, with the different series, different opponents, different buildings, momentum sometimes has to be earned and started every single night. But I think the confidence has definitely carried over from game to game, especially for some individuals specifically.”

Momentum will be dictated by any number of events, with a play here or a play there capable of swinging it in a moment’s notice. But confidence is built over time, and the Rangers are oozing it lately.
