KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The baseball arrived at a place only Yordan Alvarez can put it, onto a deck beneath a bar amid a sea of empty royal blue seats. His home runs routinely render spectators silent. Teammates turn to one another in awe. Kyle Tucker is too often among them, buried down inside a dugout without a proper view.

The Astros are guaranteed six more seasons of Alvarez’s awe-inspiring swings. Houston will announce his $115 million contract extension on Monday. Sunday’s showing makes the sum seem like a bargain. Alvarez resuscitated the Astros’ anemic offense with an otherworldly performance during his team’s 7-4 win at Kauffman Stadium.
