Padres complete sweep of Giants with a rout

The long run of Reds and Pirates and Guardians and the like ended with their arrival in the Bay Area late Thursday night. The series that awaited them against the Giants would be a test.

Two one-run victories ensued on Friday and Saturday, and then on Sunday the Padres completed their first sweep at Oracle Park in nearly six years with a 10-1 victory.

“Got a ‘W,’ MacKenzie Gore threw the ball really well, the team swung the bats really well,” Manny Machado said afterward. “It was a good baseball day for us.”

In addition to pushing to be this year’s National League MVP — he leads the major leagues with a .374 batting average and the NL with a 1.065 OPS — perhaps Machado can make some real money and pick up a side hustle as a sportswriter. Because that pretty much summed it up.
