How NASCAR All-Star race works from Open to main event

Any driver who has won a Cup points race in the past 12 months, is a previous All-Star winner or is a NASCAR Cup champion who attempted to run the past season are eligible to race in it.

Drivers such as Tyler Reddick or Erik Jones who have not won a race in the past year are given one last shot at making the main event through the NASCAR Open event.

There is also a pitstop competition among the pit-crews between stages 2 and 3, with the winner of that lining up P4 in stage 4, as long as he is P15 or better in stage 3.
