Does The Amazon Fire 7 Tablet (2022) Have An SD Card Slot?

Having an SD card slot for expandable storage is a crucial feature on any tablet — but is that something you can expect on the Amazon Fire 7 (2022) tablet? If you’re in the market for a cheap Android tablet to watch movies, play light games, and browse the web, Amazon’s Fire tablets are some of the most compelling. They don’t have groundbreaking specs or features, but they deliver reliable tablet experiences for not much money.

One of the latest examples of this is the new 2022 version of the Fire 7 tablet. The Fire 7 is the cheapest Fire tablet in Amazon’s lineup, and with the 2022 model, it’s better than it’s ever been. The new Fire 7 has a sleeker design, 30 percent faster performance than the previous model, up to 10 hours of continuous battery life, and a USB-C port for convenient charging. The best part? You get all of that for just $59.99. It’s no iPad killer, but if you want a tablet and don’t have much to spend, the Fire 7 (2022) is a compelling package.

But there’s one more trick hiding up the Fire 7’s sleeve. Despite its ultra-cheap price, the Fire 7 tablet also has an SD card slot for expandable storage. Surprisingly, Amazon’s included an SD card slot on all versions of the Fire 7 — including the 2017 model, the 2019 one, and now the 2022 version. Simply find the SD card tray on the side of the Fire 7, pry it open with your fingers, and insert the microSD card of your choice. Just like that, you’ve expanded its storage for all of your apps, movies, games, etc.

With past versions of the Fire 7, Amazon only supported microSD cards up to 256GB and 512GB. However, with the Fire 7 (2022), the tablet works with microSD cards up to 1TB. You don’t have to use a 1TB card with the tablet, but if you need that much space, the Fire 7 (2022) supports it.
