Dave Chappelle announces last-minute SF show

Comedian Dave Chappelle plans to perform a last-minute show at the Punch Line in San Francisco on Tuesday, May 24, promoter Live Nation announced just minutes before tickets went on sale at 4 p.m.

Chappelle’s presence in the Bay Area is no shock, despite being a controversial figure among local LGBTQ residents. In November, he kicked off his tour for his new documentary, “Untitled,” at San Francisco’s Chase Center, just one month after sparking fierce criticism for his comments about the transgender community in his Netflix special “The Closer.”

“Man, I love being canceled. It’s a huge relief!” Chappelle said at the sold-out show at Chase Center, which included guest appearances by Bay Area-bred artists Goapele, Raphael Saadiq, E-40 and Too Short — plus Lil Jon, the Atlanta rapper Chappelle often impersonated on his sketch comedy series “Chappelle’s Show.”

He defended the Netflix special, saying: “If you haven’t seen my special, watch it from beginning to end. If you watch it, I will promise you you’ll know that I ain’t trying to hurt nobody. I’m trying to celebrate everybody.
