The first batch of set photos from Warner Bros.’s upcoming Blue Beetle live-action adaptation reveals the DC hero’s costume. One of Warner Bros.’s future DCEU projects is Blue Beetle, starring Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes. While the teenage hero made his live-action debut in Smallville season 10, Jaime finally gets the cinematic treatment over ten years later. Blue Beetle centers on Jaime, who one day discovers a powerful alien scarab that turns him into the iconic DC titular hero.
Angel Manuel Soto is attached as the director, while Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the Blue Beetle screenplay. Blue Beetle will be the first major superhero motion picture headlined by a Latino character. Initially, Blue Beetle was set to be an HBO Max original before Warner Bros. and DC Films turned it into a theatrical film, released in theaters in the summer of 2023.
As principal photography is underway in Atlanta, set photos have begun to surface from filming. Just Jared (via @_MarvelMania_) got the first look at Maridueña in the costume. This comes roughly a year after the Blue Beetle concept art was released at DC FanDome, with the practical suit looking exactly like the design. Check out the set photos below.
The Blue Beetle costume was designed by Mayes C. Rubeo, whose resume includes working on WandaVision, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Thor: Ragnarok. Aside from Maridueña, Blue Beetle stars Bruna Marquezine as Jenny, George Lopez as Uncle Rudy, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, Raoul Trujillo as Conrad Carapax, Belissa Escobedo as Jaime’s Milagros, Damián Alcázar as Alberto Reyes, and Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio. While What We Do In The Shadows’ star Harvey Guillén is also attached, his character hasn’t been disclosed yet.
